At Blackfen Community Library we have devised a list of festive events and activities to keep us all occupied during the Christmas period, whilst of course maintaining social distancing guidelines.

Here’s what we’ve got in store over the coming weeks:

Ongoing (Thursdays) – Virtual Coffee Mornings

Fancy a cuppa and virtual chat each week? Come and say hi to other members of the library and surrounding areas at our Virtual Coffee Mornings every Thursday from 11:00-11:30am.

Ongoing – Christmas Craft Goodie Bags

Whilst we have been distancing recently, some of our elves at Blackfen Community Library have been hard at work putting together Christmas craft bags! Along a range of artsy crafts to keep your little ones busy, our bags also include bubbles, colouring sheets, pencils, sweets, a Christmas story book!

Completely free of charge, come on down to the library and grab a craft bag before Christmas.

28th November – Big Virtual Quiz Night Fundraiser

A night of competition and camaraderie where you can put all of your lockdown quiz knowledge to the test! With an option to deliberate your answers at the end of each round in breakout rooms, you are able form teams with friends/family no matter your location – or simply check over your answers and make a cuppa during this deliberation time! To ensure you are put in the same breakout room as your teammates, please make sure to enter the same team name when signing up for the event.

There is a minimum donation of £5 per screen, and a maximum of 6 screens per breakout room (team).

12th December – Luxury Christmas Hampers Giveaway

Treat a deserving member of the community to one of our luxury Christmas hampers. This year has been like no other, and as such, we are so glad to be able to bless 10 nominees who have been affected by Coronavirus and the challenges caused by the pandemic.

Simply nominate someone who you believe is deserving of a special Christmas treat, and if selected they will be able to collect their hamper from the library, or have it delivered to their home on the 19th December 2020.

Nominations close on the 12th December 2020.

14th December – Santa’s Post Box

Would your little one love a reply from Father Christmas himself? Luckily for them, here at Blackfen Community Library we have a very special post box direct to the North Pole.

Make sure to write your messages to Santa and post them in the special library post box with a return address on by the 14th December to guarantee a response before Christmas!

1st-17th December – Christmas Window Art Display

Let’s get creative kids! We’re looking to fill our Blackfen Community Library windows with a range of festive children’s artwork. This can be any form of festive art – drawings, collages, paintings etc.

Come to the library between 9:30am-3:30pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays to drop off your artwork, and receive a lucky dip prize in return!

Entries will close on the 17th December 2020.

10th-19th December – Christmas Treasure Hunt

Fancy an adventure around Blackfen High Street? Come along any time between 10th-19th December for our Festive Kids Treasure Hunt. Follow the clues around the local area, and receive a prize from the library upon completion!

Clues vary with pictures to find for younger children, and an anagram to solve for older ones.

Why not put your detective skills to the test? See you then!

Keep up to date on these events and more via our Blackfen Community Library Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Wow what a year! After a year of loss, let's take a moment to lament - a passionate expression of sorrow.Allow ourselves a moment to acknowledge the sadness and pain this year has brought us all. After a year of lockdown, as we follow the road map to open up again and reconnect together, there will be lessons we have learnt. There are things we have missed. Like children, we will take hold of those things again with wide eyed wonder. As we seek to find purpose in the events of this last year we can remember how thankful we are for each other and for our community. Why not take a moment to thank an individual, a group, organisation or business who have helped you in this last year? ... See MoreSee Less
