What we once enjoyed and
deeply loved we never lose,
for all that we love deeply
becomes a part of us.
Helen Keller
What is Bereavement?
It is the experience of losing someone important to us and is characterised by grief and the range of emotions we go through as we gradually adjust to the loss.
Losing someone important to us can be emotionally devastating – whether it is a partner, family member or friend and it is natural to go through a whole range of emotions such as denial, pain, anger, depression and finally acceptance and hope as we gradually come to terms with the loss.
Most of us will experience this at some point in our lives; how we manage our loss is different for every individual and there is no right or wrong way to feel.
Bereavement Support Group
The idea of our Bereavement Support Group at Blackfen Community Library is as a source of support for people who have experienced the pain of grief and loss and to help reduce the isolation that can be caused by bereavement.
It is an opportunity for people to meet others in similar circumstances and to realise that they are not alone in their experiences, to build confidence and to make new friendships. It is an ongoing group so that people can attend whenever they want to, and stop attending when they no longer feel the need for this type of support. You can chat and share your feelings and experiences if you wish or simply enjoy a cup of tea and listen to others and relax, feeling secure in the company of others who are also grieving.
The group will be run by Suzanne from P.L. Mulligan and Chris, one of our volunteers, who are caring and compassionate and will make sure that everybody feels welcome and at ease.Come and join us on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month 2-3pm or email [email protected] for more details.
