Our groups and activities offer something for everyone, young and old, so drop in, make new friends and have fun!


Computer troubles? – 10.00am – 1.00pm

Come and meet our IT support volunteer available to answer your technology questions.


Scrabble Club  – 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Multiply your brain cells with our friendly Scrabble club. Open to all.


Come and have a Yarn  – 1:00pm – 3:00pm

Join us to knit, crochet or embroider – bring your own projects. Mixed abilities welcome.

Reading Group – First Friday of the month – 11:30-12:30pm

Get the chance to read a variety of books and discuss with likeminded people.

Stitch and Craft – 1st and 3rd Friday of each month – 1.30 – 3.00pm

Try new crafts with our friendly craft group. Craft materials supplied for a fee of 50p (GROUP NOW FULL)

Groups & Activities for Kids

We have lots of regular groups and activities for children throughout the week. You’re welcome to turn up at any of these activities, no booking needed. We’d love to see you!


Sparkles Babies – 10:30am – 12:00pm

Drop-in stay and play, enjoy a coffee with other mums and dads. Term time only.

Book Buddies – 3:30pm onwards

Blackfen Community Library’s one to one scheme which helps children improve their reading, grow in confidence and provides the opportunity to meet new people as well as benefit from an intergenerational project.

This project has been made possible by an award from Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.


Rhyme Time – 10:30am – 11:00am

Songs, rhymes and stories with musical instruments for preschool children. Term time only

Lego Club – 3.30 – 4.45

Come and build with us Thursdays after school. Term time only


Lucy Library Songs & Stories – 10:30am – 11.00am

Songs, stories and puppet fun for preschool children. Term time only

Rooted Coffee House

Rooted Coffee House is our community cafe within the library, providing a warm and welcoming meeting space for the local community. We sell barista coffee, fair trade drinks, meals and snacks – pop in and visit us!

All profits from Rooted Coffee House go towards the running of the library.
